Nikki Sixx has released the soundtrack to his best selling book
The Heroin Diaries.
The release shows many things about the man best known for
Motley Crue and the excesses they experienced. First and
foremost, this CD showcases songwriting talents that are far
more reaching than anything he did in Motley Crue. Sixx is more
intense, introspective and emotional than he has ever been
before.
The soundtrack is
basically Nikki's decent into drug addiction and his attempts to
gain sobriety. The music mirrors the emotions that the songs
attempt to portray. The main feelings are disgust, terror,
shame, anger and confusion. Resentments from the past mix with
despair of the present and hope for the future as Sixx takes us
on a trip through his tragedies and triumphs.
In the end, this is the
most emotionally provoking musical statement Sixx has ever
composed. His soul bared and his mind tortured, Nikki takes us
on a ride through hell into oblivion and then back to hell
before ending with his feet on the ground.
This is an amazing album
that allows Sixx to deal with his demons in a very public yet
creative way. One leaves the ordeal wondering if the game is
still going on or if Nikki has walked away victorious. Perhaps
we all, including Sixx, will have to take it a day at a time to
answer that one. One feels that his demons will always lay in
wait, temping the tortured artist for the rest of his days.
After trudging through the trenches of his inner soul throughout
this album one can only hope and pray he will be able to avoid
the pitfalls that have kept him achieving his goals in the past.
