Deep Purple vocalist Ian
Gillan has checked back into the inn. This time he has
unleashed a new and improved Deluxe Version of the album. While
it may seem hard to improve upon the original -- he has done
it.
Just like the first time
around you get the best of Ian's tenure with Sabbath, Purple and
his solo band. You get guest artists including Steve Morse, Joe
Satriani, Uli Jon Roth, Janick Gers, Don Airey, Tony Iommi, Jon
Lord and Jeff Healey. The difference is in the DVD portion of
the release.
In addition to the
complete album in 5.1 surround sound, you can actually remix
"Smoke On the Water" by choosing the guitar player. How does
one choose between Steve Morse, Joe Satriani and Jeff Healey?
Also included is a behind the scenes documentary on the making
of the album.
The Deluxe Edition
includes "The Bootleg Basement" where fan held cameras caught
Gillan on tour. You get a discography and can view Ian's
handwritten lyrics. As good as all this is, however, the Deluxe
Edition saves the best for last. You, the viewer, get to go
behind the scenes and see what life is like on the road for Ian
Gillan and crew. Ian lets the fans behind the curtain on the
DVD bonus features "Backstage Pass" and "Tales From the Tour
Bus."
Seeing Ian play the blues
on the tour bus is awesome. Despite their advancing age the
band still act like a band as there is plenty of partying and
even the occasional signing of boobs!
