Fight - The War of Words Demos
Metal God Entertainment
www.robhalford.com
Rating: B+
Long held deep in the coalmines of the
studio were Rob Halford's first solo recordings after he left
Judas Priest in the 90's. Titled K5 for catalog reasons
(and to keep the tunes from slipping out to the public) many
thought they were lost and gone forever. Instead of fading into
legend, however, the K5 War of the Words Demos have been
found and released along with five new tracks by Halford's solo
band Fight.
The CD is heavy metal at it's best. The opening track "Into the
Pit" is heavier than anything JP ever did but retains Halford's
original style. New tune "Now You Die" is powerful, heavy and
loud. The song is a testament to Halford's desire to be the
Metal God no matter what band he is in.
The Demos are unique in the fact that they captured the
band in the beginning stages when the energy was most raw and
exciting. Halford was full of anger and attitude when the songs
were recorded. He was also reaching out and fulfilling a long
time need to stretch out from Priest's shadow. He succeeded.
The K5 Demos succeed where most other demo type releases
fail. They succeed because they are good. They are damn good.
The band was on fire and were playing with both passion and
angst.
This CD is for anyone who wants to relive the days when Metal
could be strong, loud, melodic and still remain original. Hats
off to Halford for having the vision and desire to let his fans
take a glimpse at a rare musical moment and masterpiece.
