Heart - Dreamboat Annie Live (DVD)

Rating: B
Ann and Nancy Wilson dared to take on a live performance
of an album that they had not played onstage in it's entirety in their entire
career.
Dreamboat Annie was the
album that made rock stars out of the talented sisters. "Magic Man" and "Crazy
on You" are still staples on classic rock radio. These two songs alone were
responsible for the band leaping onto the charts and making a statement that
woman could not only rock, they could write songs and be the driving force in a
rock band.
The rest of the album takes the band all over the map.
There are acoustic moments, eclectic moments, rocking moments and heartfelt
ballads. Ann sings her ass off. Listening to her voice is like hearing
an angel
sing. Sister Nancy holds her own on guitar, playing mostly rhythm but
impressing all with the classically inspired into to "Crazy on You."
The DVD has a great interview with the band and even takes
time to talk to the Heart fans out on the street after the show. However, four
songs blast this DVD from being really cool and a good idea into being an
amazing piece of rock n' roll. As good as the album is, and as impressive as
the band is with their own songs, Sisters Wilson bring the house down with a
song from Pink Floyd's The Wall,
two from Led Zeppelin and a classic by the Who.
Ann shines on "Goodbye Blue Sky" while the entire band
brings the crowd to their feet with rousing versions of "Black Dog" and "Misty
Mountain Hop" from Led Zep IV.
However, it is the emotional "Love Reign O'er Me" that shows just how damn good
Heart can be. This song brings out all of their strengths. From Ann's vocals
to Nancy's rhythm guitar mastery to the backing band's ability to cast both
thunder and lightening into the song, this is a masterpiece.
Heart playing the music from their classic album is worth
the price of admission but the encore will drop your jaw to the floor. If you
