Both the CD and the DVD
(sold separately) are a must-own for all fans of classic rock.
This is THE concert performance that took Jimi to the world
stage at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Watching this
historic event unfold is spellbinding so the DVD offers that
much more than the CD. From the crowd to Jimi's groovy clothes
to the burning of the guitar, Monterey proved to be fertile
ground to spawn the legend of Jimi Hendrix.
Produced by Janie
Hendrix and Eddie Kramer to ensure the finished product lives up
to the high standard demanded by
Experience Hendrix, the entire
concert is simply amazing. After a short introduction by
Rolling Stone Brian Jones, Hendrix, accompanied by Noel Redding
and Mitch Mitchell, explode into the classic "Killing Floor" and
then into "Foxey Lady." A cover of Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling
Stone" begins with Jimi asking the audience if they mind if he
bores them by playing his guitar for six minutes! Jimi has some
trouble with verses but in the end his playing more than makes
up for the mistake.
"Hey Joe" and "The Wind
Cries Mary" are performed with pure passion. After a short tune
up session, Jimi leads the band through "Purple Haze" and "Wild
Thing" leaving all in awe of his magic.
