Rating: B+
Rock scribe Martin Popoff
introduces a new series of books only available at his website
www.martinpopoff.com that focus on in-depth
interviews and reviews from albums released in specific periods
of time. Each chapter features a look into the making of an
album with commentary by Martin and the artists who made the
album. What makes these books most special is Popoff's
insistence on focusing on artists who have been virtually
ignored by the mainstream press.
Ye Old Metal
Volume I: 1968-1972 features
interviews and reviews of Sir Lord Baltimore, Blue Cheer,
Bloodrock, Dust, Buffalo and others. Martin does his best
Colombo impression tracking down and interviewing rock stars of
days gone by.
Ye Old Metal
Volume II: 1973-1975 features many
artists more well known and it is also 9000 words longer.
Covered in this volume are Alice Cooper, Status Quo, Nazareth,
Montrose, BTO, Foghat and more. The interviews with legends of
rock like Alice Cooper, Randy Bachman, Roger Earl and others are
fascinating while classic albums like
Welcome to My Nightmare,
Not Fragile and
Fool for the City
come to life as Popoff's describes the music
they contain.
Each book is limited to
only 1000, numbered copies signed by the author. This is a very
cool and collectable series so head on over to
www.martinpopoff.com for more details and info on how
to order.
