Richie Kotzen - Return of the Mother Head's Family Reunion

Rating: B

Richie Kotzen has been pumping out albums faster than even Glenn Hughes as of late.  Like Hughes, the music on all of them is good but tends to run together and become less interesting the longer you listen.

This time around, however, Kotzen seems to have gone into a zone and found the IT factor much of his earlier worked has missed.  Of the 11 songs on the disc (there is a twelfth track included on the Japanese bonus edition) there are no weak songs and a handful of them are among the best Richie has ever recorded.

The opening song, "Go Faster" opens with a bang and sets the stage for the entire CD.  The song mixes melodic rock with sizzling guitar solos and good vocals.  "Faith" is a Journey-esque ballad that is one of the best tunes on the disc.  Other songs like "Can You Feel It," "Choose It" and "You Know That" show the guitarist taking his craft to the next level.  This one is a winner.
