This
isn’t the first time Robin Platts has tackled the British
progressive legends, having first penned Inside and Out in
2000. Fast forwarding to present day, he brings the story right
up to date, continuing where Inside and Out left off and
concluding just as the band is on the cusp of their Turn It On
Again reunion tour. Behind The Lines is an interesting,
informative and detailed read which covers everything for the
newly initiated to the most diehard Genesis fan. He draws from
his own personal conversations with past and present members as
well as utilizing portions of key interviews from specific time
periods of the bands storied career. There is a detailed
discography and bootleg section and piles of information
regarding each members (past and present) individual solo
career. Certain periods are covered in more detail than others,
in particular I found the Gabriel era could have been a given a
bit more attention, specifically the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
tour and the difficulties the band encountered performing this
epic live. Those few minor gripes aside, you really can’t go
wrong with Behind The Lines as it certainly does the band
justice.
