Def Leppard - Songs from the Sparkle
Lounge

Rating: B-
On one hand it is nice
to see Def Lep not attempt to repeat the same old formula of
success they have found in the past. On another hand it is
nice to see the band refrain from changing their sound,
attempting fit into modern day as they did on the dismal
X album. Songs from the Sparkle Lounge is a solid
mix of classic Lep and the Lep of the new millennium. In
this case, the experiments prove to be some of the best
songs on the album.
One may ask ‘what the
hell are Def Leppard doing making a song with country
superstar Tim McGraw’ but one listen to "Nine Lives" proves
this unlikely alliance works and the tune is the strong
point on the album. Other ditties that prove to be winners
are the surreal "Hallucinate," the rocking "Go" and the
High N’ Dry era sounding "Gotta Let It Go."
At the end of the day
this is a good album that should keep the boys on a major
label and has a decent chance of selling gold. You could do
much worse than this one so next time you are in the CD
store just look for the cool cover art of Sparkle Lounge
and give it a shot. You will be cranking it up and cruising
down the road with a smile on your face, guaranteed.
