Zebra – The DVD

Rating: C
Zebra is used to hearing how
underrated they are and how they helped usher in 80's rock
while retaining a 70's vibe and how vocalist Randy Jackson
(no not the black dude on American Idol) is a killer
guitarist and how Zebra sounded like an 80's version of Led
Zeppelin... blah blah blah. It is all true, however, as
Zebra really were a great band that totally got overlooked
in many ways.
The band is still together and has
released a comprehensive DVD that mixes a great gig at the
New Orleans House of Blues with a documentary that tells the
story of the striped band. The pluses include a band still
proud of their thirty-year legacy. Jackson delivers big on
the bands most known tunes including "Who’s Behind the
Door," "Tell Me What You Want" and "As I Said Before." If
you are not familiar with the band then you will be
impressed with Randy, Felix and Guy as they can flat out jam
and they had many more great songs above and beyond what the
radio played.
The bonus features and the
interview footage border on goofy and low budget but Zebra
is Zebra and they are doing the best they can with what they
got. The music is what matters most on this one and it
receives a B. The goofiness of some of the footage cost ‘em
a letter. However, it must be noted that Zebra are still
down to earth guys who deliver big for their fans. The band
are on the road and if you get the chance, check em out as
you will discover or re-discover one of the best bands you
either forgot about or never heard of. Musically, this one
is a winner.
