Watching
Over Her Big Brother's Legacy: An Interview with Janie Hendrix
Conducted by Jeb Wright, December 2010
Produced by Kevin Clark
Have you ever wondered what would it be like to have a
famous sibling? What if your own flesh and blood
relative were not just famous but an American icon? What
would it be like to have
Jimi Hendrix as your big brother? Janie Hendrix
can tell you what it is like. For them most part, it is
wonderful and special, but like everything in life,
there is a ying and yang. There are nuts who want to
live in Jimi's reality instead of their own. There are
those who want to trash your name and even those in the
family that feel they are more deserving of protecting
Jimi's legacy.
The negative has never kept Janie from doing what she
needed to do, however. Under her leadership Experience
Hendrix LLC is growing and giving back to Jimi's
millions of fans. Most recently, Janie has overseen a
change of record company's to Sony's Legacy and presided
over the release of the latest Jimi release, West Coast
Seattle Boy, which features four discs of
previously unreleased studio and live recordings.
During this interview Janie discusses running the
company, her memories of Jimi when she was a child and
how the family deals with Jimi's drug filled past. This
is a unique and open interview with a true champion who
is dedicated to making sure her brother's legacy gets
the respect it deserves and will personally see to it
that his music is around for generations to come.
