Ted Nugent is a true rock n' roll guitar
hero. He is an American Icon and a spokesperson
for hunters around the world. Nuge has played over
6,000 concerts yet he still celebrates life with the
passion that the photograph above indicates.
In the interview that follows we
discuss, in-depth, topics as diverse as creating the
licks to "Cat Scratch Fever," "Stranglehold" and "Great
White Buffalo," never going through the motions on
stage, who the republicans are going to run in the next
Presidential election, why Obama is wrong, why Nugent's
detractors claim he supports causes he does not, Ted's
recent fine for hunting violations and how Ted burbs the
Commander in Chief's name.
I have been worshiping at the musical
alter of Nugent since I first heard Double Live Gonzo
in the sixth grade. I picked up a guitar and
discovered the joys of music because of Ted Nugent.
Ted was the second interview that I conducted in my
career and it has been an honor and a privilege to get
to know him over the past dozen or so interviews we have
done since I first met him in 1998.
Politically, I have not always embraced
the freedoms that Ted champions for every day of his
life. Unlike many, however, I have not been afraid
to tell Ted that I feel different. I have also
been brave and open-minded enough to listen to his
reply. At the end of the day, I have not yet armed
myself and I do not support everyone running around with
weapons but I do see the points that Nugent makes.
I have learned a lot from my discussions with Ted Nugent
and I look at things differently in many ways than
before.
I still don't, however, hunt. I
have never shot an animal, yet I totally believe in your
right to hunt. After all, I do love
animals...they're delicious. I have never met a
t-bone steak I didn't like. Nugent has promised to
teach me the spirituality of shooting a bow at some time
in the future, something I have never done. I am
willing to do so under one condition... that Uncle Ted
then teach me how to play the licks to "Love Grenade,"
"Dog Eat Dog" and "Fred Bear."

Ted tells stories that will raise your awareness and he
also honestly discusses how he cried when he wrote the
song "Fred Bear." This is an honest an open
discussion with a man who is too often written off as a
radical mouthpiece for the right. Ted's enemies
want you to believe that Ted is nothing more than a
loudmouth because that way they can hope his messages
gets dismissed. They don't want you to know that
Ted Nugent is a proud American, who is very intelligent
with real depth to both his mind and soul. Like
the buffalo, Ted Nugent he is not afraid of charging
into the storm and taking care of business, something he
does on a daily basis, both on and off stage.
