In 1979, AC/DC recorded a show in Paris that, at the
time, seemed to be another gig. Only a few weeks later,
however, they would be shook to their foundation as
vocalist Bon Scott would die, the official cause of his
demise, “Death by Misadventure.”
Now, for the first time on disc, Warner Brothers has
released a numbered, limited deluxe box full of goodies
and bonus features and, of course the legendary concert,
which features 13 classic tunes. From the opening of the
film, which features a bevy of roadies setting up and
tearing down the show this one keeps the viewer’s eye
peeled to the screen.
This is a rare look into an era of the band that has
become part of rock n’ roll folklore as Bon Scott was
larger than life when he walked the earth but became
even bigger after his death. The songs are the main
reason this one is so cool. All the extras are simply
icing on the cake. Just watching a young AC/DC blast out
“Live Wire,” “Shot Down in Flames,” “Hell Ain’t a Bad
Place to Be,” “Sin City” “Walk All Over You,” “Bad Boy
Boogie,” “The Jack, “Highway to Hell,” “Girls Got
Rhythm,” “High Voltage,” “Whole Lotta Rosie,” “Rocker”
and “Let There Be Rock” is a hard rockers equivalent of
a spiritual experience.
The bonus features mainly consist of rockers and
other experts talking about the band and Bon and all
things rock. While interesting, it’s the music that does
the talking, which is, of course, the way it should be.
Place this one under the category of “Must Own.”
