Dave Davies is most famous for being the guy who cut up his
amplifier speakers to create the distorted sound of “You Really
Got Me,” the guy who wrote “Living On A Thin Line” and being the
lead guitar player in the Kinks. Dave has long lived under the
shadow of his brother, Kinks front man and chief songwriter, Ray
Davies. The pair have had decades long feuds and are almost as
famous for their arguments as they are their music.
Dave has suffered health issues, including a life-threatening
stroke that saw him teaching himself how to play music again.
During this rediscovery process Dave, in his sixties, has
uncovered a newfound creativity that is reflected in the
emotional new release The Aschere Project. Dave, along with son,
Russ, have created a sci-fi, electronica, freaky-deaky musical
passageway through the cosmos, telling a story of how love can
conquer all, including being at opposite ends of the universe.
Don’t expect the teenaged angst of “You Really Got Me” or the
tongue-in-cheek humor of “Lola,” however, as Davies and Son have
created a surreal landscape of sounds and voice that will put
you in a meditative trance and challenge your psychic senses.
