Rating: B
The B-52s are one of the best party bands to come
along in the history of pop music. They are eclectic,
energetic, original, unique, quirky, silly and fun.
For this live recording, the band returned to their
hometown of Athens, Georgia and recorded eighteen of
their best loved tunes. Every song sounds great and the
crowd is enthusiastic and appreciative of their
homegrown talent.
Fred Schneider brings the band their personality,
while Keith Strickland, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson
bring the show and the sounds. This is a great band that
has often been overshadowed, musically, due to their
outrageous looks and lyrics.
The best moments on the CD are “Mesopotamia,”
“Private Idaho,” “Whammy Kiss,” “Cosmic Thing,” “Love
Shack,” “Planet Claire” and the iconic “Rock Lobster.”
The B-52s brought art and pop to punk music and made
it okay to be different, so long as you have a smile on
your face and are loving life.
This one is a winner.
