Stray was a band that, pun intended, seemed to go
astray every time they came close to breaking big. They
had small dribbles of success in various parts of the
world over three decades but fame and fortune seemed to
elude them. The band is actually back together, and in
2010, released an album on Angel Air records titled
Valhalla that is, hands down, the best album they
have ever made.
Stray is led by vocalist and guitarist Del Broham.
While that band is more straight-ahead hard rock, Del
also is a great lover of traditional blues music. In
2004, he recorded, and released, the album Devil’s
Highway. When Angel Air brought up the possibility
of re-releasing the CD, Broham jumped for joy. While he
originally recorded 11 tracks for the release, he never
truly felt he had finished the CD. Now, after adding
five bonus tracks, he feels the job has been done right.
Two of the bonus tracks are the same song, Robert
Johnson’s “Ramblin’ On My Mind,” one done acoustically
and the other electric.
Del made a hell of an album back in 2004 and he
finished it strong in 2011. He penned most of the tunes
with the title track, “Train,” Whisky, Wine and Beer,”
“House of Love” and “”Slave” being the best of the
bunch. “That’s All Right Mama” is a classic blues number
included for good measure.
Fans of the blues will love this album. Del is a pure
guitar player and his love of music has lasted a
lifetime. From Stray, to nearly being chosen to play in
Thin Lizzy, to this solo album, Bromham is true music
fan that deserves to be heard. To learn more about Del
