Don Henley – The Very Best of Don Henley
Geffen
www.ilovethatsong.com

Rating: B+

The man behind the drum kit for the Eagles came into his own in the 1980’s with the song “Dirty Laundry.”  The whole world picked up on the sentiment and the groove of “Kick ‘em when you’re up, kick ‘em when you’re down” and, suddenly, Don Henley had a solo career.  Now, Geffen, as part of the Universal Music family, has released an impressive CD/DVD package celebrating the musical career of the often angst ridden and media unfriendly rock star.

With songs like “The Boys of Summer,” “Sunset Grill,” “The End of the Innocence,” “The Last Worthless Evening” and “New York Minute” this is an easy one to review.  The packaging is worthy of an Eagle and the sounds are crystal clear.  The DVD features videos for “The Boys of Summer,” “All She Wants to Do is Dance,” “The Last Worthless Evening,” “The Heart of the Matter,” “Everything is Different Now” and “For My Wedding.”  As if that were not enough, there are four bonus audio tracks included as well.

This is a good career review for the man most famous for pounding the skins and singing “Hotel California.”  In fact, this collection proves that Henley is one of our generation’s best songwriters, as what he did with both the Eagles, and his solo career, is very impressive indeed.
