Rating: B+
Recorded on Halloween in 1981 at the Palladium in New
York, Frank delivers an amazing set of songs. Frank
leads the band as only he could lead a band. The band,
dressed in costumes interacts with the crowd, spews
filthy lyrics and plays amazingly difficult music
throughout the concert.
What makes this so good is the track listing.
Included on the DVD are Zappa classics “Montana,” “Easy
Meat,” “Charlie’s Enormous Mouth,” “Flakes,” “Broken
Hearts are for Assholes,” “You Are What You Is,” “The
Illinois Enema Bandit” and “The Meek Shall Inherit
Nothing.”
Zappa was a musical and lyrical genius. You either
got him or you didn’t. If you didn’t get him then you
are going to hate this DVD. If you resonate a little bit
to the weird side of life then you will laugh in
amazement and appreciate the satire, irony and musical
brilliance bestowed before your very eyes. After all
there was, and still is, nothing like a Frank Zappa
concert.
To this writer, this one is a winner.
