One thing is clear after reading this book: Glenn
Hughes is lucky to be alive and even luckier to have all
of his faculties intact. This is one book that you will
not be able to put down once you pick it up. The book
features Glenn telling his tale from beginning to end as
well as allowing those close to him to tell their side
of the story as well. From his Mother to Deep Purple
band mates to friends, Hughes past comes to life.
The story is one filled with tales of rock star
excess, pathetic drug addict behavior and missed
opportunity. From his rise in Trapeze to his
international stardom with Deep Purple to his
embarrassing moments with Black Sabbath, Hughes tells it
all. He admits to many embarrassing details of a drug
addict’s lifestyle as well as being too fucked up to
make obvious decisions that affected his career. He
allowed the drugs to be more important than the music
and his God given talents at times and the result is a
true warning to anyone interested in trying drugs for
the first time. Glenn even gets honest about a secret relapse and how
confessing that mishap will only strengthen his current
recovery.
Hughes has an ego, yet he also has the ability
to be gut wrenchingly honest with himself, and the
reader. He has done it all and lived to tell the tale.
And what a tale it is! This is a must read for all fans
of rock n’ roll.
