Rating: B
This album was first released in the 1990’s as a
collection of rarities from Jimi Hendrix. The album, now
owned by his family’s company, Experience Hendrix, has
been re-released under their label. The fifteen tracks
are very unique and great stuff for Hendrix fan’s that
want to see what Jimi left behind, sometimes unfinished,
for the world to discover.
Look Over Yonder
This song comes from the original Experience lineup and
was an outtake from 1968.
Little Wing
This is an early demo from Hendrix. Musically, it sounds
like “Angel” and not “Little Wing.”
Here He Comes (Love Man)
This is a live song that Jimi often played but was
never put on a live album. You get to hear Jimi talking
at the beginning in the studio.
South Saturn Delta
This is the title track and features a lot of horns
and is very jazzy.
Power of Soul
This is a studio track that was recorded by the Band
of Gypsies.
Message to the Universe (Message to Love)
This song was performed by Jimi’s Woodstock band called
Gypsy Sun and Rainbows. It was originally a studio track
by the Band of Gypsies.
Tax Free
This song was not written by Hendrix but was played live
occasionally. The song was written by the duo Hannson
and Carlsson.
All Along the Watchtower
This is the same Dylan penned track that appears on
Electric Ladyland. The only difference is very
slight. It is a version mixed by Chas Chandler.
The Stars that Play with Laughing Sam’s Dice
This was the B side to “Burning of the Midnight Lamp and
was put on a compilation album in 1974 in Europe and
Japan titled Loose Ends.
Midnight
This was recorded as an instrumental during the
Electric Ladyland Sessions.
Sweet Angel
This is an early demo version of the classic song
written by Jimi.
Bleeding Heart
Basically this is simply a blues jam that has been
previously released on an album titled War Heroes.
Pali Gap
This is an instrumental song. Not sure when it was
recorded…
Drifter’s Escape
Jimi remade another Bob Dylan song with this one. It
appeared on Loose Ends originally.
Midnight Lightning
You can actually hear Jimi tapping his foot on this
early demo recorded by Hendirx.
