Kopek is a group of Irish youngsters who grew up on modern
rock but kept an ear pealed to the classics, including Led Zep
and Aerosmith. White Collar Lies does a damn good job of
melding styles of yesteryear and tomorrow and the result is a
real sounding rock record. Yep, what we got here is a good
example of where rock could be if corporate record companies
would get their heads out of their collective asses and start
realizing the music is not dead, despite what our ears have been
given to listen to over the last decade and a half.
“Love is Dead” is the hit off the album and contains all of
the arrogance and attitude one would expect from real rock
stars. Also of note are “Cocaine Chest Pains” and “Love Sick
Blues.” These guys have talent and they may just be young and
full of enough piss and vinegar to not realize what they are up
against.
This may not be the album that saves rock n’ roll but it is a
good place to start.
