Nine Below Zero – It’s Never Too Late

Rating:  B

It’s Never Too Late is the latest album from British blues band Nine Below Zero, a seasoned group of musicians that first came together back in the late70’s. Led by original members, vocalist / guitarist Dennis Greaves and harmonica player Mark Feltham, the band, which is rounded out by former Rory Gallagher members, bassist Gerry McAvoy and drummer Brendan O’Neill, have carved out an impressive, modern sounding blues rock record that shows that even after thirty years there’s still plenty of gas left in the tank.

There isn’t one ounce of filler on this baby as Greaves fires off an impressive arsenal of raw, bluesy guitar licks to perfectly complement Feltham’s searing harmonica work on tracks like “Breakin’ Down”, Hit The Spot” and the funky title track. There’s a real laid back, loose, almost party vibe flowing throughout this album that only makes it more enjoyable with each subsequent spin.  It’s Never Too Late proves that it is indeed never too late, especially if you stick to your guns for as long as these guys have. Here’s hoping this album is another step towards seeing them achieve a bit more recognition on these shores as well.
