Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt’s bio includes a stint with
Iron Butterfly and as the super group featuring ex-Deep
Purple vocalist Rod Evans Captain Beyond. Before all of
that he played in The Second Coming with future Allman
Brothers Dickie Betts and Berry Oakley.
Now the man called Rhino has snuck back into the
spotlight and released an amazing album of good old
fashioned, kick ass southern rock n’ roll. Backing him
up on the CD are Dickie Betts’ band Great Southern. The
bottom line here is that there are nine songs that
totally kick ass. We are talking three to four chords
and more pentatonic guitar licks than can be found on
Foghat Live.
If this sucker had come out in 1974 then Rhino would
have been on the fast track with the Allman’s, Skynyrd,
the Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band. Back in the
Day is a throwback to loud and proud rebel rock
where doobs are burned, beer is cold and the most
important thing to do in a day is hang out at the park
with the radio turned up loud. I love it!
