Rory Gallagher was the king of Irish guitar and considered a
musical mentor to Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore and Vivian Campbell
among others. He never found mainstream success in America but
if you are a blues or rock guitarist, or you just are a total
blues and rock music fanatic, then you are well aware of the man
named Rory.
Gallagher left behind a worldwide following when alcoholism
shortened his life. Eagle Rock Entertainment has single-handedly
made sure his legacy is not only remembered but is still easily
available for purchase. They are re-releasing his CD catalog and
have released several DVDs of his liver performances around the
world. On April 12th, Irish Tour ’74 will hit
the streets. This is a look at Rory Gallagher in his heyday. He
is at the top of his game and he jams out classic tune after
classic tune. The DVD features “Walk On Hot Coals,” "Tattoo'd
Lady," "Who's That Coming," "A Million Miles Away," "Going To My
Home Town," "Cradle Rock," "As The Crow Flies," "Hands Off" and
"Bullfrog Blues." Watching the three-piece band, with primitive
rock concert equipment sound this good is nothing short of
amazing. Gallagher plays his arse off from the opening note
until the final one.
As if the concert were not enough, Eagle Rock has also
included bonus incredible bonus footage. There are home movies
for Gallagher’s tour of Japan in 1974. The Blu-ray also features
a 1972 half hour documentary that was originally aired on the
Irish Television Network. Never before has so much been readily
available for fans of the Irish guitarist. His was a talent that
comes along only one in a lifetime. Classic Rock Revisited
highly recommends owning Irish Tour ‘74, as it is an
important time in the history of guitar-oriented music.
