Slash returned to his birthplace in Stoke, England
and performed to a drooling and raucous crowd who were
very proud of their famous offspring. Slash was thrilled
to be there and the humility he felt is evident as the
crowd sways with every word he says and note he plays.
And play he does. While he may not be the greatest
guitarist on the planet, he is amazing at what he does,
which is ripping, roaring and speeding fast guitar licks
that are easy to hum yet blast through your skull with
the force of a freight train.
The set list relies heavily on his solo album but
there are plenty of GNR classics performed as well. For
his solo stuff, it just does not get any better than
“Ghost,” “Doctor Alibi” and “By the Sword.” For the GNR
fans, Slash cranks up “Nightrain,” “Rocket Queen,”
“Civil War,” “Patience,” “Sweet Child O Mine,” “Mr.
Brownstone” and “Paradise City.”
Kennedy does an excellent job on vocals. Slash’s solo
album features different singers on each track yet he
pulls it off with ease. He does not do an Axl Rose
impression on the Guns songs but he delivers acceptably
through all of them.
This is a good live album that showcases Slash’s
entire career. It shows the man is still kicking ass,
writing good songs and paying homage to his past, while
giving it his all. This concert would have been a blast
to attend. If you were unable to make it, as most of the
world was, then this is your chance to hear what you
missed.
