Strange Karma – Strange Karma

Rating: B
These four rockers come from down under and feature
the Brothers Strange, singing and playing their Aussie
asses off. The band has been compared to Led Zep in many
reviews but I think that is unfair. A lot of bands copy
Led Zep and their signature vocal and guitar nuances,
but not Strange Karma. They are very original and the
comparisons to Zep probably come from the massively
distorted riffing going on in several songs, looking
beyond that, however, one finds a very unique and hard
rockin’ band.
Strange Karma have a slick sound and Martin Strange
has a very unique vocal sound. His over the top wail is
a bit annoying at times but after repeated listens seems
to be blend in as part of their signature sound. Imagine
if The Darkness had more talent, were better songwriters
and had a much less annoying singer and you kind of get
what this band is about.
Paul Strange is a damn good guitar player who can both
play for the song and show off some pentatonic scale
mastery when needed. The rhythm section of drummer Jason
McDonald and bass player Doe Prijono is very powerful.
Just listen to the song “Mind Games” and one can feel
the energy from the driving beat firing up the entire
band.
The best song on the CD is “Fame.” This is an epic
tune that will make fans out of old fart classic rockers
around the world upon the first listen. “America” and
“Uneasy” are also strong tracks. In fact, this is a
throwback to the time when bands were more concerned
about making good albums and not just a single with a
bunch of junk to fill up space.
Strange Karma is a true hard rock band that mixes old
school rock tricks with a modern twist. In short, they
rock. I challenge all who read this review to learn more
about Strange Karma. If you do then I bet they end up on
your iPod.
