Survivor indeed had the eye of the tiger when they
released Vital Signs. The band had tasted success
a few years earlier with “Eye of the Tiger” and then
failed with the follow-up Caught In The Game.
Now, with a change of lead singer’s all appeared to be
set up for Survivor to not be able to survive in the
music business. After all, in the early to mid 1980’s
there were few second chances given to bands.
Luckily, when vocalist Dave Bickler vacated the lead
singer seat due to vocal problems the band replaced him
with a hotshot vocalist named Jimi Jamison. Producer
extraordinaire Ron Nevison took the helm at the
soundboard and the band wrote some great songs. The
result was a platinum selling album that contained three
hit singles. “I Can’t Hold Back,” “High On You” and “The
Search is Over” all resonated with the musical audience
of the day and Survivor not only stuck around they
became more popular than ever before.
