Jailbreak A+
This job it too easy sometimes, I get to write a
review of the classic Thin Lizzy album Jailbreak
that features three of their best loved tracks in “The
Boys are Back in Town,” “Cowboy Song” and the title
track. In addition, hard rockers “Emerald” and
“Warriors” feature some of the best guitar playing Brian
Robertson and Scott Gorham ever did. Subtler songs
“Angel from the Coast,” “Running Back” and “Romeo and
the Lonely Girl” give the album true flavor and flair.
Lizzy never did it better than they did with this
release.
Now, however, the release has been expanded with
another disc featuring four tunes, “Jailbreak,”
“Emerald,” “Cowboy Song” and “Warriors” from a 1976 BBC
broadcast. Also on the bonus disc is “Derby Blues,” an
early form of the song that became “Cowboy Song” and the
unreleased track “Blues Boy.” This is a ‘must own’ for
Lizzy fans off all ages.
Johnny the Fox B+
While not as iconic as Jailbreak, this album
was nonetheless a classic. The best of the bunch is
“Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed,” “Don’t Believe a
Word,” “Massacre” and “Borderline.” Once again there is
a bonus disc that contains remixed version of tunes, BBC
sessions from 1976, instrumental takes on songs and a an
unreleased track titled “Scott’s Tune.”
