Tedeschi Trucks Band – Revelator

Rating: B+
One of the most musically prolific husband and wife
teams have teamed up with nine other musicians and
created a wonderfully bluesy and jazzy take on their own
rockin’ style of jam band in Revelator.
Derek Trucks, nephew of Allman Brother founding
drummer Butch Trucks, has learned a lot from his time in
the Allmans. His talents and creativity continue to
mature and blossom. Trucks is quickly becoming a master
at his instrument as well as a savvy songwriter. While
much of his style may come from jamming, his musical
brain deciphers what is going on like a computer as he
kicks in with the perfect lick, solo or phrase. His
wife, Susan Tedeschi, is a solid rhythm player with
outstanding vocals and musical instincts. Where Derek
brings soul, Susan brings heart. The rest of the band
fills in the cracks, supports the tune or blasts out
amazing solos throughout the album.
While the best song on the album is the groovatious
“Midnight in Harlem” there are many tracks following
right behind including “Come See About Me,” “These
Walls,” “Bound For Glory” and “Shelter.”
This is music done for music’s own sake. It is music
written by Trucks, Tedeschi and friends to satisfy their
souls, it just so happens it will satisfy the soul of
anyone else who happens to listen to it as well.
This is a must-own for Allman Brother fans, Jam Band
fanatics, guitarists and all around music lovers.
