Tora Tora – Revolution Day

Rating: C+
Tora Tora made a splash in 1989 when their debut
album reached #47 on the Billboard Charts. They were
never able to equal that success and by the time
Revolution Day was recorded a band called Nirvana
had hit the scene causing the poofy hairdos of every
Spray band to droop. The album reviewed here was never
released and Tora Tora faded away.
FNA Records has now given the bands’ last effort a
proper release and done a fine job making the album
sound as if it were 1993 once again. The guitars are
sharp and the melodic metal sounds best turned up to 11.
“Mississippi Voodoo Child” kicks the album off and sets
up a slick album filled with guitar hooks, pomp, glam
and glitter. “Rescue Me” and “Shelter From the Rain”
both would have been huge hits if only this album were
released a half decade before it was recorded.
Revolution Day is a good find for fans of the
Sunset Strip era as these guys had the talent to make it
but they ran short on luck. The music has highs and lows
but should have been released. Hats off to FNA Records
for taking the time to pay tribute to this ‘shudda been’
band from back in the day.
