David Coverdale gave Whitesnake a facelift in the
1980’s and resurrected the band from being an English
blues/rock band to an international band of hard rocking
superstars. In 1990, Coverdale and Whitesnake were
invited to headline the Monsters of Rock festival at
Castle Donnington in England. Now, 21 years later, the
show has been released on DVD and CD, much to the joy of
the Snake’s most venomous fans.
The band played in front of 70,000 sweating fans,
foaming at the mouth to rock out to “Here I Go Again,”
“Slow & Easy,” “Slide It In,” “Fool For Your Loving” and
“Still of the Night.” The band consisted of Coverdale on
vocals, Steve Via and Adrian Vandenberg on guitar, Rudy
Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldridge of drums. This concert
ushered in the 90’s, representing all things that were
gloriously taken to the limit in the 80’s, including big
hair, loud music, amazing guitar solos, larger than life
sex appeal and really bad clothing.
The DVD includes the concert as well as a bonus
behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the
classic Slip of the Tongue album.
After begging for this release for over 20 years,
Whitesnake fans will be able to sit back, crank it up
and sing along with the band at the height of their
commercial success, thanks to Frontiers Records, who did
a great job with both the audio sound of the CDs and the
visual quality of the DVD.
Ironically, Whitesnake sound as good today on their
new release Forevermore. Frontiers has served up
two huge servings of all things Snake, one vintage and
one fresh. Both deserve to be in your collection.
