Alice has spent most of the last couple of years
touring with Rob Zombie as part of the Gruesome
Twosome tour. As good as Rob is at what he does, the
entire tour has been the Master still outshining the
student. Alice is and will always be, the shock rock
king. This CD/DVD combo is nothing short of Alice
proving he has earned the right the title, as well as,
hopefully, induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in Cleveland, Ohio.
The DVD is, of course, the most thrilling aspect of
the two discs as Cooper’s music is as much visual as it
is audible. Seeing the madman come to life before one’s
eyes is powerful. Alice, older Alice in this case, is
less creepy in a weirdo sense than when he was younger
but he is way more terrifying. He is grittier, grimier,
sleazier and scarier than ever before. He gets killed,
kills others, waves swords, glares with hatred and
sneers his classic songs throughout the show as Nurse
Rosetta or the battered girlfriend in “Only Woman Bleed”
show up during the show.
There are a lot of songs packed in but it is mostly
the classics such as “School’s Out,” “I’m Eighteen,” “Go
to Hell,” “Welcome to My Nightmare,” “Is It My Body?”
“Be My Lover,” “Billion Dollar Babies,” “No More Mr.
Nice Guy” and “Under My Wheels” that are the best of the
bunch. I won’t spoil any surprises but there are plenty.
There are plenty of album cuts and newer songs that all
come across great including “Ballad of Dwight Fry,”
“Cold Ethel” representing the former while “Wicked Young
Man” and “Dirty Diamonds” show Al still has what it
takes to rock.
Bottom Line: Buy this one as you get one for the
house and one for the car. This is classic Cooper and
the visuals are outstanding.
