Alice Cooper – Welcome 2 My Nightmare
Universal Records
www.alicecooper.com

Rating: B+

Alice Cooper has reunited with Producer extraordinaire Bob Ezrin to reenter Cooper’s alter ego’s nightmare. The result is a gruesome, spooky, disturbing and funny sequel to Welcome to My Nightmare.

Cooper and Ezrin deliver on the songs, the light and shadow, and the overall experience that is Alice Cooper. Coming along for the ride are plenty of guests, as well as some AC alumni, including the remaining three members of the original Alice Cooper Group, Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith. Also reappearing from the original album are Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter, with Hunter rejoining Cooper as a guitarist in his band. The most unlikely guest, however, is diva Ke$ha, who delivers big as the devil on “What Baby Wants.”

Alice Cooper is back and this is the best work he has done since his heyday. The musical style ranges from hard rock to silliness to Coop’s famous ghoulish rendition of Broadway. The album’s opener, “I Am Made of You” will get the volume cranked up while the next song “Caffeine” will get your fist pumping in the air. “Last Man on Earth” sees Alice refusing to take a bath, as he is now the King of the World, while “I’ll Bite Your Face Off” reminds us all why we dug this guy so much to begin with.

The album gets even more nightmarish with the hilarious “Disco Blood Bath” and “Ghouls Gone Wild.” “I Gotta Get Outta Here” brings that familiar alter ego Alice’s terrifying desperation to the forefront before the album closes with the entire original Welcome to My Nightmare summed up in only a few minutes in the instrumental “The Underature” which features snippets of the first album, including “Black Widow,” “Welcome to My Nightmare” and “Only Women Bleed.”

Cooper and Ezrin, along with the supporting cast of true characters, have brought brilliance to Welcome 2 My Nightmare leaving this writer to ponder on what the afterlife will be like for Alice’s alter ego… Are you listening Bob and Al? We want more!
