Live Bullet: A+
Nine Tonight: A+
Bob Seger has been one of the few high profile
holdouts concerning putting his albums out on iTunes.
Now, for the first time, one can download either of
these amazing albums from the download store. Both are
also available on CD, each with a bonus track.
Seger recorded these two gems in Detroit at different
periods of his career. The first, Live Bullet, is
a much funkier album and the songs, while not chart
busters, are considered classics amongst his legions of
fans. Beginning with the Ike & Tina Turner hit “Nutbush
City,” Seger was on fire for this concert. Touring in
support of his latest album, Beautiful Loser,
many of these live tracks are FM radio staples including
“Travelin’ Man,” “Beautiful Loser,” “Turn the Page” and
“Katmandu.” Other tunes represent the early days of
Seger’s career including “Jody Girl,’ “Bo Diddley,”
“Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” “Heavy Music,’ U.M.C.” and “Let
It Rock.” The best word to describe this album is
stunning.
Years later, after Seger had hit the big time, came
Nine Tonight from his tour supporting his massive
# 1 charting album Against the Wind. The live
album featured two new tunes in “Nine Tonight” and
“Tryin’ to Live My Life Without You.” The rest of the
concert is a true hit fest and includes “Hollywood
Nights,” “Mainstreet,” “You’ll Accompany Me,’ “Old Time
Rock n Roll,” “Betty Lou’s Getting’ Out Tonight,”
“Against the Wind,” “Fire Lake,” The Fire Down Below,”
“Her Strut” and “We’ve Got Tonight” among others. Seger
was on top of his game once again. One word to describe
this album is brilliant.
Both live albums are ‘must owns' as they show not
only the amazing voice of Seger, but also his huge fan
base, and his incredible songwriting ability and
showmanship.
