Chickenfoot - Chickenfoot
Redline Entertainment

Rating: B+
The hype is true, Chickenfoot kicks ass. No, they are not,
as Sammy Hagar said in a tequila stupor, as good as Led
Zeppelin, but they are damn good. The super group
consists of two ex-Van Halen members, with different
last names than the Brothers VH, vocalist Sammy Hagar
and bass player Michael Anthony, and guitarist
extraordinare Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers
drummer Chad Smith.
The band got together and created a raging slab of hard rock
mayhem. “Oh Yeah” is, by far, the best of the bunch.
This song was tailor made for Hagar’s party time anthem
vocal style. The guitars on “Oh Yeah,” and the rest of
disc, are simply outstanding, and why not...This is,
after all, Joe Satriani. “Learning to Fall” is a great
power ballad as well. While most of Chickenfoot is
based on in-your-face hard rock, this tune may be the
best example of just how good this foursome can be.
Other tracks that will have your fist in the air are
“Soap on a Rope,” “Down the Drain” and “Sexy Little
Thing.”
At the end of the day, this is not as good as Led Zeppelin’s
self-titled debut, however, it may be the best album
released thus far in 2009. One can only hope that the
four members of ‘Foot will stay dedicated to this
project, as it appears they have just scratched the
surface of what they are capable of doing.
