Queen Greatest Hits II
Hollywood Records
www.queenonline.com
Rating: D
This is the green version of the
greatest hits releases that hit the shelves years ago.
Unfortunately, the hardest rocking songs, and most
beloved Queen tunes, were all on the red version,
Volume I.
Now, digitally remastered, Hits II,
is back on the shelves, featuring 17 hit songs from the
English
rock band. The dreadful Radio
Ga Ga is on this collection, as are other
underachievers Its a Hard Life, Who
Wants to Live Forever, The
Miricle and The
Invisible Man. It is not all pop syrup,
thankfully, as Under
Pressure, I
Want It All, Hammer
to Fall and Im Going Slightly Mad
bring to mind the reason Queen dominated the world of
rock in the 1970s and 1980s.
Too much of Hits II, however,
sounds like
Freddie
Mercury doing his best
Barbara
Streisand. The songs are campy, suited for
Broadway and are not what hardcore Queen fans want to
hear, or even remember.
