The Spin Doctors were huge twenty years ago. They had
two massive hit songs in “Two Princes,” which was the
most played song in the world in 1993, and “Little Miss
Can’t Be Wrong” which reached #17 on the Billboard Hot
100. The album went on to reach # 3 on Billboards Top
200 Album Chart and was named one of the 100 best
selling albums of the decade by Billboard Magazine.
While the Spin Doctors are remembered by the casual
fan for their two massive hits, this album reminds us
that they were really one of the first jam bands in the
world. The album features a ton of instrumental jamming
that fit like a glove next to the pop songs. These guys
are actually quite talented and this album shows off
what they are best at: playing, singing and holding down
a killer groove.
There is a second bonus disc on the 20th
anniversary version of Pocket Full of Kryptonite
which hits shelves this August. The second CD is full of
early band demos that were previously available only at
Spin Doctors gigs on cassette. Some of the demos
appeared on future Spin Doctors albums with different
names such as “Homebelly Groove,” “Turn It Upside Down”
and “You’ve Got to Believe in Something.”
Classic Rock Revisited strongly suggests that you
revisit the Spin Doctors as they don’t do much wrong on
this album and the demos are very interesting to long
term fans of the band.
