What do you call a new album chalked full of some of
rock n’ roll’s most classic tracks that contains such
musical luminaries as Ritchie Blackmore, Lyle Lovett,
Brad Paisley, Steve Miller, Ian Paice, Johnny Winter,
Bootsy Collins, Peter Frampton, John Wetton, Wayne
Kramer, Carmine Appice, Sheryl Crow, Michael Schenker,
Dave Davies, Warren Haynes, Zakk Wylde and Steve Howe?
You call it the new album by William Shatner, that’s
what!
No, William Shatner is not a young rock phenom who
shares the same name as the famous actor. This is the
actor, the dude that played Captain Kirk. Seems Kirk has
beamed himself up to planet Rock for a little bit of fun
and debauchery. Well, maybe no debauchery but it would
have had to be a blast doing spoken word versions of
“Major Tom,” “Space Oddity,” “Space Cowboy,” “Space
Trucking,” “Rocket Man,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Learning
to Fly,” “Twilight Zone” and “Iron Man.” That is just a
taste of the spacey double-disc offering.
Okay, let’s be honest, this is not for the snobby
purists out there but if you love a great laugh and
don’t mind making sport of the music you love then this
is a must-own. Shat is DA BOMB as he uses that God given
voice to take this music to a whole new place, one that
is located somewhere between your ears and your funny
bone.
