Fans of the New York Dolls will recognize Steve Conte as the
current lineups lead guitar player. In addition to The Dolls,
Steve has a band called The Crazy Truth that he leads with his
snarling vocals and distorted rockin’ guitar licks.
Conte has a sense of style and music that tips the hat to a
time when music was meant to be fun and the musicians were meant
to be cool cats. He has swagger and a sneer and look of a true
old school rocker. He even has his day gig boss David Johansen
adding harmonica on his record.
The best news to report is that this album rocks. It has a
cohesive feel and it contains songs that are memorable and have
a hook that will keep you coming back to them time and time
again. The best of the bunch are “This is the End,” Gypsy Cab,”
“The Goods Are Odd,” “The Truth Ain’t Pretty” and “Indi Girl.”
Hell, there really ain’t a bad tune on the entire disc. Fans of
the Dolls need to check out Conte and band as they will love
what is going on. Fans of classic rock will also dig this one.
