Some people eat, sleep and breathe music. Ted Yates is one of
those people. With over thirty five years of experience as a
radio broadcaster, Ted has literally been immersed in popular
music for most of his life. His expert knowledge on the hits of
the 50's, 60's and 70's led him to pen the book The 60's: The
Hits and The Trivia and now he's taken the next logical step
and followed that up by tackling the 70's as well.
This is a fun ride that takes the reader through the decade
in chronological order, giving you the top hits for each year.
Every entry includes a few brief splashes of trivia and
noteworthy facts that are relevant to each song. You also get
the lists of the top selling Rock, Soul R&B and Country albums,
as well as the one hit wonders and 'lost' 45's for each year,
which makes for a wealth of information, all right at your
fingertips. The 70's was decade crammed with so much musical
variety that it's almost an impossible task to feature
everything and yet Yates does a great job of covering pretty
much all the bases. The true test for this reviewer was pretty
much out of the way after about five minutes, as that's about
how long it took me to find out something I didn't know.
If you're a total 70's rock nerd like me then I think you'll
definitely find The 70's: The Hits and The Trivia is a
veritable gold mine of valuable information, that thoroughly
covers what was hands down the best decade ever in music
history.
