It has been four decades since the Doors released
what many consider to be both their swan song and the
crowning jewel in their catalog. While the band went on
to record without Jim Morrison, after the iconic
singer’s death, the band, without the Lizard King, were
but a shell of their former self.
Rhino Records has now released a two-disc version of the
classic album. Disc 1 has all the classic tunes
including the groovy “The Changeling,” the danceable
“Love Her Madly,” the bluesy “Been Down So Long” and
“Cars Hiss By My Window” and the iconic title track.
Also included is the rollicking “L’America” and the
haunting “Hyacinth House” and “Crawling King Snake.”
“The WASP” contains the classic Doors sound while the
hypnotic “Riders on the Storm” rounds out the album.
Disc 2 features alternate versions of many songs and
a new tune “She Smells So Nice.” The bonus disc includes
band chatter from in the studio which Doors fanatics
will find fascinating. The liner notes for the album
were written by David Fricke of Rolling Stone magazine
and Bruce Botnick, who produced the album back in the
day.
The Doors were a very unique band and LA Woman
is one of the best the band released and one of the best
albums of the era. This is must-own for any fan of the
band.
