Rating: A+
The sophomore effort by Black Country Communion is
one of the best albums released in the last twenty
years. Every song, every note, every solo, every lyric,
every vocal and every drumbeat solidifies this as a true
masterpiece. Music like this simply isn’t made anymore.
If BCC’s first album can be described as a breath of
fresh air then 2 is a hurricane of hard rock that
is ready to knock the music industry flat on its ass.
The band, led by ex-Trapeze and Deep Purple bassist
and vocalist, Glenn Hughes, plays like their lives
depend on it. One hears many tips of the hat to classic
bands of the past including lots of Led Zep, but also
Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and even classic Yes (check
out the mellow section of “Crossfire” if you don’t
believe me) yet remains it’s own entity.
Joining Hughes in BCC is Joe Bonamassa, arguably the
most prolific and talented guitar player under the age
of 40 in the world, Jason Bonham on drums and Derek
Sherinian on keyboards. The album is produced by rock
god Kevin Shirley. The result is an amazing album that
SHOULD, and BETTER, go down in history as one of the Top
100 rock albums of all times. Yes, I know I am saying
some huge words here but there is not a single bad
moment on this album. Every song is a masterpiece. As
stated earlier, they just don’t make music like this
anymore.
No one, not even Glenn Hughes, could have predicted
that a classic 1970’s hard rock album would be created
in 2011, but that is exactly what happened. If one buys
this CD then they will realize that Black Country
Communion have tapped into that magical, musical abyss
where great things happen. This is a band with a passion
and purpose that have the talent to back up their
intentions. If this is not the best album of 2011 then
we are in for one hell of a year of music.
Bottom line: Buy this now.
