Nik Turner – Space Gypsy
Purple Pyramid

Rating: B

Hawkwind may be most remembered this day and age for being the musical birthplace of Motorhead’s leader Lemmy Kilmister but back in the day the band were cutting edge space rock meets art rock meets prog meets…well, Hawkwind.  And no, the name had nothing to do with bird farts!

Founding member and space rock band pioneer Nik Turner has returned for a new album of new music that is every bit as trippy, spaced out and freaky deaky as ever.  Hawkwind alum Simon House and Gong’s Steve Hillage make gooiest appearances on the album making this an all star space age daydream of an album.

Nik is writing and performing at a high level and continues to push the ethereal boundaries of rock and roll.  Not a down to earth artist at all, Turner is reaching into the furthest stretches of imagination on this album making it one hell of an interesting ride.
