Elton John – The Million Dollar Piano
Eagle Rock Entertainment

Rating: B

The name of the release says it all... well nearly all, as the actual piano used for the concert pushed two million in price.  The bonus feature on the Blu-Ray explains why this is such an expensive musical instrument, as does the visual aspects seen during the concert.  The piano morphs into its own stage show while the iconic Elton John plays tunes from every aspect of his career.

The only place a million dollar piano can be played in concert with an elaborate and over the top stage show is, you guessed it, that little ol’ desert paradise called Las Vegas.  And it works so well.  The music and the visual meld together making this an amazing experience.

The show opens with “The Bitch is Back” and keeps going though classic numbers such as “Bennie and the Jets,”  “I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues,” “I'm Still Standing,” “Rocket Man,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and many more.

While Elton can't hit the uber high notes anymore, his band and background singers help out, but mostly Mr. John is impeccable on vocals and his piano skills, and his stage presence proves why he has become a true legend in his own time.

No where does a piano this expensive really make any sense.  It’s an extravagence that simply should not happen.  But man, it looks cool…and sounds even better.
