Ozzy Osbourne – Memoirs of a Madman
Epic Records/Legacy Recordings
http://www.ozzy.com

Rating: B

Does the world need another Ozzy Osbourne ‘best of’?  Well, that answer is ‘no’, but because Sharon Osbourne has never been shy about exposing her husband (well, Ozzy has exposed himself plenty of times, but I digress…), we get another one.

Each time Ozzy does release one of these box-set-type best-of thingies, one must admit there is also something cool included.  And this time it’s the DVD videos, and an additional DVD which is a collection of many of Ozzy’s appearances throughout his career.  Of course, depending on your budget and how much of a diehard Oz fan you are, there are many formats of this sucker you can spend your money on.  There is a single CD, two-LP set and two-LP picture disc set all for sale. In addition, an exclusive autographed limited edition fan bundle will be available. This includes, according to the press release, “an autographed poster, 2 DVD set, CD, 2 LP picture disc vinyl, along with a “Creative Allies” fan designed poster, which will feature an image personally chosen by Ozzy.”

DVD 1 features an alternative version of “Mama, I’m Coming Home” and a behind the scenes look at the videos for “Let Me Hear You Scream” and “Life Won’t Wait.”  The rest of DVD 1 is filled with all of Ozzy’s classic MTV videos.

It is DVD 2 that is cream of this crop.  It is filled with live performances and interviews and gives fans a chance to see Randy Rhoads perform with the band.  One also gets to see Joe Holmes, Geezer Butler and just about every one else who has been in Ozzy’s band.

The CD track list is very debatable, as if this really includes the best Ozzy has done.  Let me clarify it for you: it does not.  There are only four songs off his first two releases.  So, it’s a fail in that aspect.  If one looks at it as a novice Ozzy playlist, then it makes sense.

If you do not own any Ozzy this is  good place to start.  If you have not seen the footage from Rochester, New York in 1981 where Ozzy and Randy pump out “I Don’t Know,” “Suicide Solution,” “Mr. Crowley” and “Crazy Train” then pick this one just to add them to your collection.

The track list is as follows:
1. Crazy Train
2. Mr. Crowley
3. Flying High Again
4. Over The Mountain
5. Bark At The Moon
6. The Ultimate Sin
7. Miracle Man
8. No More Tears (edit)
9. Mama, I’m Coming Home
10. Road To Nowhere
11. Perry Mason
12. I Just Want You
13. Gets Me Through
14. Changes (with Kelly Osbourne)
15. I Don’t Wanna Stop
16. Let Me Hear You Scream
**17. Paranoid (Recorded live at Roundhouse, London 2010 - Previously Unreleased)
**Previously unreleased track recorded summer 2010 at Roundhouse in London
