There are times as a CD reviewer where one has to try hard to find the correct words to describe the music…or the right phrase to get across the feeling the release gives the reviewer.  It can be a painstaking and honestly difficult task. Then there are reviews like this one.

Come on…how easy can it be to tell you about three amazing live releases by the freakin’ Rolling Stones?  Each one is a masterpiece.  Each one is unique and each one comes from incredibly creative eras from the band’s long history.  Each set list is different yet equally awesome.  Just buy these as you will play them over and over and over again.

Some Girls: Live in Texas ’78 may be the Holy Grail tour by the band.  The Stones were on the road promoting one of their best albums.  They recorded this sucker in the hot Texas summer at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on 18 July 1978.  The show is energetic, raw and the band literally tear it up start to finish.

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones was also recorded in Texas.  This was back in 1972 and the band was touring their release Exile on Main Street.  It is a throb-fest of the 1960’s and early 1970’s tunes that will simply thrill one beyond belief.  This sucker never lets up and represents the band embracing a new direction, heavily influenced by the past, yet pushing the boundaries to the future.

Live at the Checkerboard Lounge features the Stones coming to see Muddy Waters perform after one of their shows.  Buddy Guy also shows up.  This is perhaps one of the most legendry gigs of all time!

The Stones were in Chi-Town playing three nights at the classic Rosemont.  Mick, Keith, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart arrive like Kings of Rock and soon are up on stage with the blues master himself.  It was very fortunate to be recorded and here it is, once again, or us to enjoy.

So…there ya have it.  Easy as pie.  Buy it.  Crank it up.  Turn your grandkids on to real music.

Hats off to Eagle Rock Entertainment for continuing to bless us with these blasts from the past!
