Rating: A

Denny Somach is one of the most important figures the history of rock music. He has dedicated his entire life to what we now call 'classic rock' and is one of the genres true experts.

Somach's latest project is the book Get the Led Out: How Led Zeppelin Became the Biggest Band in the World. This amazing book details the history of the band like never before.

Somach also produces the radio show Carol Miller's Get the Led Out , which airs on over 100 radio stations in the USA. The book begins with a timeline of Led Zeppelin's history based on the radio show. While the timeline kicks things off with a bang, the real meat and potatoes of the book is what comes next.

The book contains nearly 30 rare interviews that really break down the walls between band and fan. Through these interviews one gains not only the understanding of what it was like to be in Led Zeppelin, but also learns, first hand, how the band, as the title states, was able to rise to the heights of stardom that few in the music industry have ever soared.

The interviews with the band members themselves are riveting, but when Somach includes interviews with industries icons Danny Goldberg and Ron Nevison, the reader really gets to be a fly on the wall, digesting true Led Zep history from those who were there. Other interview subjects include Jason Bonham, Alice Cooper and members of Yes and Aerosmtih. The list goes on and on and with each interview one becomes more entrenched in the subject matter.

The coffee table sized book is not only great reading, it is a joy to look at. Famous album cover artist IOANNIS delivers big with his illustrations of Zeppelin throughout the book. There are also photos and an in-depth discography included.

Somach is known for being a stickler for detail and while he has accomplished an amazing list of interviews over his career, as well as radio shows, production credits and damn near anything else that can be accomplished in the music biz, Get the Led Out will undoubtedly be another feather in his cap for which he can be proud. For fans of Led Zeppelin, this book is a true must-own to be both enjoyed and proudly displayed.

Rarely do these books live up to their hype. In this case, however, the book is not only worthy of it's hype, it actually is creating it. Once one picks this one up, they won't put it down for hours and they will refer back to it time and time again.
